◎ The near-real-time product dataset of the China Meteorological Administration Land Data Assimilation System (CLDAS-V2.0)

The "CLDAS-V2.0" product is a grid fusion analysis product covering the Asian region (0-65°N, 60-160°E) with the resolution of 0.0625°×0.0625° and 1 hour, including six atmospheric driving field products (2m air temperature, 2m specific humidity, 10m wind speed, ground pressure, precipitation and shortwave radiation), ground temperature analysis product, soil moisture products (vertically divided into 5 layers: 0-5, 0-10, 10-40, 40 -100, 100-200 cm), soil temperature analysis products (vertically divided into 5 layers: 5, 10, 40, 100, 200 cm) and soil relative humidity analysis products (vertically divided into 3 layers: 0-10cm, 0-20cm, 0-50 cm). The dataset is developed by using multiple grid variational assimilation called Space and Time Mesoscale Analysis System (STMAS), along with physical inversion, terrain correction based on the ground, satellite observations from various sources, and CLM3.5, CoLM, Noah-MP land surface model. The quality in China is superior to similar international products, and the spatio-temporal resolution is higher. The near real-time products update and release after 2 days.

  • Quality
  • The CLDAS-V2.0 2m temperature, 2m specific humidity, 10m wind speed, ground pressure, and hourly precipitation data products were evaluated by 2,400 in-situ national automatic stations of China Meteorological Administration (CMA). Among them, the RMSE of2m air temperature is 0.88K, the bias is -0.13K, and the correlation coefficient is 0.97; the RMSE of ground pressure is 3.74hPa, the bias is -0.38hPa, and the correlation coefficient is 0.96; the 2m specific humidity is converted to relative humidity, and the RMSE is 4.76% , the bias is 1.10%, and the correlation coefficient is 0.93; the RMSE of 10m wind speed is 0.83m/s, the bias is -0.21 the correlation coefficient is 0.82; the RMSE of hourly precipitation is 0.94mm/h, the bias is -0.004mm/h, the correlation coefficient is 0.72. Compared with similar international and domestic products, this product is of higher quality in China, and its spatio-temporal distribution characteristics are more reasonable and accurate. The CLDAS-V2.0 shortwave radiation data product in China have been evaluated by 90 CMA in-situ solar radiation stations. The RMSE is 31.9 W/M2, the bias is -3.0 W/M2, and the correlation coefficient is 0.90. The quality of shortwave radiation products is comparable to that of similar international products, with higher temporal and spatial resolution, which can meet the needs of land-surface models.
The CLDAS-V2.0 ground temperature data product was evaluated by the in-situ ground temperature of CMA after the quality control. The results show that the ground temperature product is in good agreement with the in-situ observation and the correlation coefficient is 0.98, the RMSE is 1.8K, and the bias is 1.4K.
The CLDAS-V2.0 soil volume water content data product was evaluated by the in-situ observation of soil moisture from the national automatic stations of CMA after the quality control, and the results show that the soil volume water content data product was in good agreement with the in-situ observation and the correlation coefficient is 0.89, the RMSE is 0.02 m3/m3, and the bias is 0.01 m3/m3.
The CLDAS-V2.0 soil temperature data product was evaluated by the in-situ observation of soil temperature from the national automatic stations of CMA after the quality control. The results showed that the CLDAS soil temperature product was in good agreement with the in-situ observation and the correlation coefficient is 0.99, the RMSE is 1.22K, and the bias is 0.52K.
The CLDAS-V2.0 soil relative humidity data product was evaluated by the in-situ observation of soil relative humidity from the national automatic stations of CMA after the quality control. The results show that the soil relative humidity data product was in good agreement with the in-situ observation and the correlation coefficient is about 0.8, the RMSE is less than 10.0%, and the bias is 10%.
